“Raw and Rugged Dance Crews and Dance Ministry was established by Directors Junior and Bridgette Afuie in 2011 with a group of friends and family.

The vision, to provide “equal’ opportunities that were not barriered by cost and a platforms for success, for Youth to engage, develop, and showcase their skills, talents, and interests. They also saw the need to support the future proofing of our youth and develop their leadership qualities, ready to step up as the next generation of community leaders.

From humble beginnings, starting at a local park in Melbourne West as their Headquarters, R&R has grown to become one of Australia’s largest and most successful Street Dance Crews. Fast forward to 2021 with numerous State, National and International Titles including Grand Finalist on Australia’s Got Talent, World of Dance 2nd Place (USA) and Dance Boss Channel 9 under their belt, they continue to pay it forward with their Community.

Their programs, run on volunteer power, initially Urban Dance focused have broadened as of 2021, to include all the Creative Arts self-expression – Dance, Music, Visual, plus Sports – fitness and wellbeing.

The Programs, although directed towards motivating, mentoring, and nurturing youth with Maori and Pasifika connections, are open and sincere in welcoming all youth, especially those who are at risk and those from diverse or minority backgrounds.

R&R enjoy their involvement, working and participating with Councils, Churches, Schools, Community groups, Youth Services and Justice to develop programs to engage youth and create community connectedness.  They have welcomed the opportunity to perform at many major State level events, festivals, and functions over the years, as it provides a platform of expression and growth for their youth.
