Our Vision.

Pacificus is the Latin root word of “Pacific” which is the ocean that connects us to one another. Our purpose as a magazine is to help our people connect with their roots by highlighting the work of Pasifika creatives and curating their work for the future.

Pacific Islanders need a publication that helps us to preserve the arts within our community and documents our cultural progression and Pacificus is here to do that. We hope that by creating this platform, it will enable our people to tell our stories the way that they are supposed to be told.

Pacificus is a Pacific Islander owned publication that highlights Pacific Islanders and is written by Pacific Islanders for Pacific Islanders. This is more than just a magazine. It’s a publication that will help diversify our media and show future generations how our small islands have made incredible waves within creative spaces. Our people deserve a publication that highlights them and our children deserve to witness that.

Preserve Art.

Our people are original storytellers and Pacificus will be a tool that can connect our readers to these stories through visuals. Through art, we have the opportunity to preserve our culture for future generations and inspire young creatives within our community.

Cultural Progression.

The history and culture within the South Pacific are very rich and is centred on the arts. Our ancestors explored mediums in dance, music, fashion, printmaking, weaving, along with many others. There are many Pasifika creatives that continue to practice these traditional mediums while exploring modern mediums.

Culture is continuously changing and as it does, Pacificus will be a magazine that documents this process as the world continues to progress in this digital age.

#PACIFICSZN

Inspired by Tongan-American singer Dinah Jane’s single, “SZNS,” we created this hashtag to remind our Pacific Islander community that this is our season. It’s our time to enter these creative spaces and share our work and our stories.

We hope this hashtag sparks a movement within our community and continues to celebrate diversity from our islands and magnifies our creativity. Pacificus has found so much amazing talent due to creatives using #pacificszn on social media platforms and we urge you to keep doing so for a chance to be featured on our Instagram (@pacificusmag).
